Coach Watson stated, this Flowers team was a totally different team than when he first played them. Coach Clark and the coaching staff are doing a great job developing those young ladies. They were scrappy and rebounded well against us.
Coach Watson seldom uses timeouts but had to burn all 5 in this game. The Lady Pumas continued to rally from a 11 point deficit in the 3rd and 4th quarter. During our time outs, I had to tell our players that we need to execute and not turn the ball over. When they went up 41-40 just under the 4 minute mark in the 4th quarter is when Drew Calhoun took over the game. Drew gathered the team up and began to show her leadership ability by communicating and directing her teammates to pull it together and finish strong.
Ragan Johnson, India Thompson and Nycerra Minnis combined for 29 rebounds but most importantly secured them under the last 1 minute mark of the game. Drew finished with 27 points and 5 rebounds while connecting on six (6) 3’s with one crucial 3 pointer to put them back up 44-42 with 1:54 to go in the game. From there Amaya Yancey sealed the game from the free-throw line by making 1-2 with 4.1 seconds on the clock putting them up by 4 points. Great win according to Coach Watson because it shows our team character and toughness.
